Glide’s Must See Acts – Hangout Music Festival 2014

Going into it’s fifth year, Hangout Music Fest can compete with the best of them. The three day festival (four if you include the Kickoff Party Thursday night) is located on the beautiful white sandy beaches of Gulf Shore, Alabama. The festival has become so popular they now cap attendance at 35,000 per day and general passes sell out months prior to the festival. The festival will have 5 stages and feature over 70 bands this year. Headliners include The Black Keys, Outkast, The Killers, Jack Johnson and Queens of the Stone Age. So come soak up the sun and hangout May 16-18, 2014.

Here are Glide’s 8 Must See Acts for the 2014 Hangout Music Festival:

Bastille

If you’ve listened to pop radio at all this year, surely you’ve heard their chanting hit “Pompeii.” With 4 Brit Award nominations, surely their commercial success must hint at more in store as a live act.

Childish Gambino

Most people may know him as an actor, but Donald Glover has really been making a name for himself in the world of music since his 2011 album “Camp.” Smart lyrics, delivered crisply, and unique production begets a sound that proves he is very serious about his music game.

Conor Oberst

Singer-songwriter-indie-darling Oberst, formerly/also known as Bright Eyes, brings the Omaha sound to Hangout, right before his new album drops on May 19th.

The Flaming Lips

Balloons, confetti, the real possibility that frontman Wayne Coyne may pass over you in a plastic bubble, all done with their signature psychedelic flair. What other reasons could you need to see the Lips?

Matt & Kim

The pair from Brooklyn bring their high-energy beat-driven synthy pop sound to life in their live shows, keeping the audience screaming for more with drum set climbing and crowd surfing.

Outkast

The Grammy winning ATL hip-hop duo have come out of retirement, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their first album’s release. Can André 3000 and Big Boi keep up the insane, tongue-twisting pace of “B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)?”

Reignwolf

Canadian guitar mangler Jordan Cook has been blowing away festival audiences worldwide with his snarling, distorted brand of hard blues that landed him his current opening slot for metal godfathers Black Sabbath. Seriously: Do. Not. Miss.

Shakey Graves

One-man band Alejandro Rose-Garcia should not be missed. If for no other reason than to see him play a suitcase-turned-kick-drum while playing guitar and singing his soulful brand lo-fi alt folk.

Girl Talk

Black Sabbath, Ludacris, Jay-Z, Janes Addiction, Eminem. None of these artists are scheduled to perform but Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, WILL be performing and his manic mashups are chock-full with samples from these and more, quite possibly in the same song. He’s sure to start the weekend’s festivities off right, at 100 Beats-per-minute and up. (Thursday Kickoff Party)
