It’s not that we’re actively attempting to alienate as many newcomers to this site as possible, but I thought I’d throw some of this weekend’s glorious must-share soccer action on top of all this hippie music shit.
Most people lament this time of year, when the lull in college football makes Saturday seem so empty, so cold and distant. But if you’ve got Fox Soccer Channel at home, and if you even remotely appreciated the World Cup, the three English Premier League matches every Saturday will make sure your weekend’s still full of “Ooohhhs” and “Fuck all!” yelps. I mean, check out this wonder strike by Portsmouth’s Matty Taylor to open the scoring against Everton — then tell me this shit ain’t cool:

Poor Tim Howard. But the best goal in terms of importance came from the boot of Chelsea’s Michael Essien, a bending laser that tied up a critical match against Arsenal. Okay, I’ve done my preaching and my sermon is over…now may I present a sample of the tomfoolery featured on Hidden Track this week:
- The show reviews continued to flow freely: We gave you the inside scoop on how an idea became a bustout at Umphrey’s McGee and a contrarian’s guide to Ryan Adams at Town Hall
- The folks at the 10,000 Lakes Festival announced an initial lineup that’s solid enough to think about vacationing in Minnesota
- We marked the 26th anniversary of John Lennon’s death with Scotty’s reminiscence of last year’s trip to Strawberry Fields
- Our second outsourced podcast dropped on Friday
- 12/9/95, the Albany YEM: Best jam ever? What say you?
- The B List ranks the best DVD releases of 2006
- And we hope our other weekly departments provided both the filler and the killer: videos galore in Pullin’ ‘Tubes, downloads galore in Grousing The Aisles, and links galore in Hors D’Oeuvres and Leftovers
Chad Pennington, you ruined my weekend. Just know that. Live with that.
