Phish @ Hershey: Setlist and Recap

Since returning at Hampton in March of ’09, the members of Phish haven’t been much for giving interviews. The most recent Trey interview ran as part of a blurb in a June issue of Rolling Stone and referenced Anastasio’s “songwriting kick.” Big Red told RS “It feels too early for another record, so my thought is to play the new songs on the road.” Three shows in and Phish seems to be focusing more on old material having debuted only one original song, Show of Life, thus far. Not that anyone’s complaining.

The third show of Phish Summer Tour 2010 was another old school affair with the Gotta Jibboo (debuted in 1999) opener ranking as the newest song performed this evening at the massive, half-empty HersheyPark Stadium in Hershey, PA. There were big guns a plenty in the “Town That Chocolate Built” as the first You Enjoy Myself, Split Open and Melt, Fluffhead, Piper and Tweezer of tour were played with most coming in a seven-song second set that featured tons of improv. After debuting two covers last night, Phish stuck with the more familiar Axis Bold As Love, Funky Bitch and Drowned in Hershey.

Burn That Bridge, a song co-written by Amanda Green, was soundchecked in Chicago and again tonight, so perhaps we’ll get those new songs Anastasio told Rolling Stone about soon. The tour continues on Tuesday night at the nTelos Pavilion in Portsmouth, VA.
