SONG PREMIERE: Dear County Marry California Country And 60’s Soul On “Oh My Darlin'”

Arrica Rose and Mark W. Lynn have a long history together. The two met years ago on a spring evening at the Huntington Beach Library in Southern CA when Arrica was still a teenager and Mark was just a few years older. Her local punk band (Uxby) was opening for his touring band (Uranium 9 Volt). They had a brief conversation involving their mutual Italian heritage and New York family roots. Fast forward many moons, they re-met in San Francisco at Hotel Utah under similar circumstances. The two shared a stage with their own respective groups at the time, but there was a unmistakeable chemistry between them and before long they decided to form a group together called Dear County, which in fact blossomed out of a mutual love for country music.

Dear County started out of the the desire of these friends to draw inspiration from artists like Gram Parsons, Dusty Springfield, Big Star, Eagles, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, and The Replacements. But eventually it evolved from paying respects to their influences into creating something uniquely their own. Since then the group has been gigging steadily, and on August 26th Dear County will release their debut LP Low Country via pOprOck records. Today we are excited to share a sneak preview of the album with a premiere of the song “Oh My Darlin'”, not to be confused with the classic folk tune “Oh My Darling Clementine”.

The song has a striking simplicity, a tale of love and yearning, and most importantly, it’s a vehicle to showcase the expansive vocal power of Arrica Rose, who is backed by a basic yet hard-hitting guitars and drums, not to mention her band harmonizing in a way that bring to mind sun washed California pop of the 60’s.

Offering her own thoughts on the song, Arrica Rose says, “Oh My Darlin’, the second track off of Dear County’s debut album Low Country, is a first-rate example of the band’s stylistic diversity. It’s a hybrid of 60’s Soul, California Country, and Beach Boys’ style harmonies – a crescendoing rock ‘n’ roll tune that lyrically lends a dark twist to a classic love song theme.”
