VIDEO PREMIERE: The Savage Radley Rock and Ramble Across the South in “Gone”

The daughter of a Delta farmer and raised in Kentucky, Shaina Goodman’s upbringing seems like it was destined to lead her to songwriting. Lucky for us, that’s exactly where she ended up and where she now presides as the front woman of her band The Savage Radley. The band is fueled by electric guitar, pedal steel, piano, and the percussion of former punk drummer and longtime band member Stephen Montgomery.

On June 30th The Savage Radley will release their new album Kudzu. True to Goodman’s roots, the album tells the story of a modern-day South through raw, ragged, rock-influenced roots music. Throughout the album Goodman sings about the land she knows — a land nearly forgotten, tucked away along the banks of the Mississippi River —in a voice caught halfway between a wail and a warble. Different in scope and sound from the music emanating from the nearby country capital of the world, Nashville TN, Kudzu was recorded in western Kentucky, with producer Skylar Wilson (Justin Townes Earle, Caitlin Rose, Andrew Combs) traveling from Tennessee to work with the band

Glide Magazine is excited to premiere the new video for “Gone”. The song and video succeed in capturing a lazy day rambling over dirt backroads through the kudzu and farmland of the deep South. The simple combo of gritty guitar and heavy drumbeats hits like a hard and defiant blast of rock and roll, shouting out that sometimes you need to let your hair down and embrace where you come from. The song also showcases Shaina Goodman’s talent as a songwriter and a singer.

Reflecting on the song, Shaina Goodman has this to say:

“Gone” is about my roots. From the gravestones, fields, riversides, and kudzu-covered landscapes, throughout the video, it’s a tour of the home that shaped me. Everything from the nostalgic melody to the four-on-the-floor percussion drives home the message that, as I sing, it ‘ain’t gone until it’s gone.’
