SONG PREMIERE: New Jersey’s The Break Lights Announce New Album ‘The Bright Life’, Share Catchy First Single “Why Don’t You Call Me?”

The music of The Break Lights isn’t exactly what you might expect from a New Jersey band. They don’t sing about fast cars and the plight of the workingman. Instead, they focus on lighter and more upbeat fare like girls and the “Everything Store”. Singer-songwriters Michael Saiewitz and Jake Roggenkamp have a unique was of harmoniously blending their vocals, immediately grabbing your attention. Together their guitars dance around one another while Raaj Shah lays down bold basslines and Ryan Minieri unites the instrumentation with colorful drums.

On September 22nd The Break Lights will release their new album The Bright Life. The album is their first since releasing their 2015 EP Knockout and the tightness, not to mention the totally catchy hooks and choruses, show that this little band from New Jersey has come a long way in just a couple of years.

Today Glide Magazine is excited to premiere the first single off The Bright Life. “Why Don’t You Call Me?” is a fun, bass-driven tune about the perpetual struggle to grab someone’s attention, especially someone you are into romantically. It’s also a perfect summer tune with its upbeat groove and chorus that sneaks up on you and before you know it you’re singing along. In both songwriting and production, it’s eerily reminiscent of the classic 60’s guitar pop that the band’s biggest influences The Beatles, Paul Simon and Neil Young set the stage for.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, the band says:

“We wanted to capture the desperation of flirting in the digital age through a character who, despite his arrogance and social awkwardness, attempts to win the heart of his crush the old fashioned way by dropping a pick-up line. However, the best he can come up with in the heat of the moment is the very weak line: ‘why don’t you call me?'”
