SONG PREMIERE: Ditchbird Shares Spectral Title Track Of New LP ‘Real Enough for You Now’

Tony Petersen might very well have earned the term “ringer” for his daring guitar work and touring accolades amongst the likes of Dashboard Confessional, All-American Rejects, and labelmates Angels & Airwaves. Yet now his talented chops and versatile song-writing chops have allowed him to venture solo as Ditchbird. Today, we are announcing the debut LP from Ditchbird (aka Tony Petersen)Real Enough for You Now, out April 23.

Earning its moniker from a certain type of kamikaze-like bird, Petersen came up with his solo project’s name after traveling cross country on his motorcycle – alone. If a solo outing across the nation with literal inches between you and death isn’t enough to make you flirt with an existential crisis, Petersen also noticed that certain birds would dive out at you from the side of the road, tempting fate – both theirs and Petersen’s – each time.

Petersen is so adept as a musical talent that he can hop from the electronic flourishes of “Bright Side” to country-style licks on “Radio Silence” without forgoing absolute showstoppers like the stomping “Same Show Different Room,” or the star-gazing strut of the title track.

Glide is proud to premiere “Real Enough For You Now” (below) a soulfully intimate track where the indie-twang/folk charms of Iron & Wine, Hiss Golden Messenger, and Jason Isbell match up. Peterson has a story-telling essence that is emotionally explosive but remains invitingly gritty.

“I was honing in on the moment you know you love someone and you aren’t sure if they feel the same. That tricky period of time in any relationship where the other person doesn’t fully know you, might not trust your intentions, and may decide to up and run. I wanted to find a way to say ‘my love is the real deal, and this is how I can prove it to you.’ Because this idea sits firmly in the ‘sappy love-song’ territory, I deliberately wanted the lyrics to be a bit gnarly and intense: ‘I would build you a pillow from my tattered clothes and jacket from my shredded skin/Craft you a necklace from my ribcage and a collarbone violin.’ I had been sitting on the opening guitar riff for a number of years and was waiting for the right set of lyrics to match the alt-country vibe; once the title popped out, the rest of the song came together very quickly,” says Petersen.
