Two New Festivals in the Hamptons: Music To Know & Escape to New York

Music fans will join the locals and those who “summer” in the Hamptons this August when two new festivals debut a week and a few towns apart. The Music To Know Fest takes place in East Hampton on August 13 – 14 boasting a lineup that includes HT faves Vampire Weekend, Chromeo, Bright Eyes, Dawes and M. Ward. A week earlier, on August 5 – 7, Escape to New York takes over the Shinnecock Reservation in Southampton with Patti Smith, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Best Coast among the bands scheduled to perform.

Tickets to Music To Know, aka MTK, run a steep $195 for a two-day pass. Joining the bands we mentioned above will be Matt & Kim, Cold War Kids, Tame Impala, Ra Ra Riot, Fitz & The Tantrums, Tom Tom Club, Dawes, We Are Scientists, The Limousines, Naked and Famous, Francis and the Lights, Suddyn, Nicos Gun and Young Empires. Overall an impressive lineup with a number of bands that haven’t booked many festival gigs this summer.

Escape to New York also isn’t a cheap affair with standard weekend admission tickets going for $275. We’re still awaiting the Sunday schedule, but joining the bands mentioned above on Friday and Saturday will be The Vaccines, Au Revoir Simone, Chairlift, Lissy Trullie, Graffiti 6, The Submarines, White Rabbits, Static Jacks and The Postelles along with plenty of DJs for the soon-to-be-announced Dance Tent. The producers really need to add some major talent to the bill to make it worth nearly a $100 per day.
