Trey Anastasio Solo Acoustic in Atlantic City @ Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s Sandy Relief Benefit Concert: Setlist

Tonight Phish front man Trey Anastasio opened for one of his musical heroes, Neil Young, at the Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey by playing a rare solo acoustic set. Neil Young organized the show to raise funds for victims of SuperStorm Sandy and headlined the evening backed by Crazy Horse.

Trey stuck mainly to unplugged versions of Phish classics such as Sample In A Jar, Theme From The Bottom, Brian and Robert and Back On The Train. The guitarist did play both Architect and Let Me Lie off his latest album, Traveler, noting that the former was written recently with his friend Steve “The Dude of Life” Pollak. Anastasio, a New Jersey native, discussed his time spending summers on the Jersey Shore between Let Me Lie and Wolfman’s Brother and dedicated Water In The Sky to his wife Sue.

Before starting Chalk Dust, Big Red mentioned that he’d only seen Neil Young perform with Crazy Horse once and called it among the best musical experiences of his life. Anastasio has remained a huge fan of Young and even penned an essay about him for Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists List.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse delivered their typically potent Alchemy Tour set with the exception coming towards the end, when they dusted off Rockin’ In The Free World for only the second time all year. For the encore Neil and the Horse offered the fitting Like A Hurricane. Unfortunately “Trezy Horse” was not to be as Anastasio did not sit in with Young and his band.

  1. Trezy Horse, that would have been nice. Rockin free world and Like a Hurricane sounded great from what I heard !

  2. Trey didn’t play with the band? What kind of nonsense is that? I don’t understand these musicians sometimes. Why wouldn’t Trey play Rocking in the Free World with them?

  3. Trey should NOT do Rockin in a Free World w NY. Phish maybe, but this is Trey solo. Like a Hurricane, Hey Hey or After the Gold Rush would be my choice for Trezy Horse. Hell, maybe Only Love or Old Man would be great acoustic. Cinnamon Girl is too on the nose.
