Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Elvis Heads Out On Tour

A little over a year ago, I introduced you to the musical stylings and the rather sad story of Elvis Perkins – whose somber debut Ash Wednesday was one of my Top Ten of ’07. The singer-songwriter, who has been touring with his band In Dearland, recently put out their sophomore self-titled effort – Elvis […]

Bloggy Goodness: Roots at Festival Pier

While Jimmy Fallon may still be trying to find his voice as the new host of Late Night, his house band The Roots seem to be killing it on a nightly basis. The Philly-based hip-hop collective will take a break from their late night duties when they host their 2nd annual Roots Picnic in their […]

Tour Dates: Rodriguez First National Tour

Last year, I was infatuated with Light In The Attic’s reissue of Cold Fact, the rediscovered lost classic of psychedelic-soul and folk-rock from a guy simply known as Rodriguez. The 67 year-old singer-songwriter will embark on his first ever North American tour this spring that kicks off on April 10 in Madison, WI with scattered […]

Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Blood On The Tracks

Tomorrow, I’m headed down to Austin, TX for four days to attend SXSW – the music industry orgy of booze, BBQ, Tex-Mex and list of bands that rivals the thickness of the phone book of Rhode Island. Since this is my first time headed to the fest and looking at the list of official and […]

Better Than Noodling: M. Ward

There must be something in the water in the Pacific Northwest. Over the last couple of years the region has once again reclaimed the mantle as the epicenter of music cool, cranking out some of the most buzzed about bands around, which includes the likes of Fleet Foxes, Blitzen Trapper, The Decemberists and Blind Pilot. Among the acts that hail from that region that deserves your immediate attention is rootsy-singer-songwriter M. Ward who calls the Rose City his home.

Matt (that’s what the M stands for) seemed to be everywhere last year as one half of the indie-pop duo She & Him – his teaming with doe-eyed actress Zooey Deschanel. While taking a back seat to the starlet who wrote most of the album’s material, Ward’s stellar production work secured the record a place on critic’s best-of lists at year’s end.

Prior to collaborating with Hollywood A-Listers Ward previously performed as a member of Beth Orton’s live band, toured with Jim James and Conor Oberst as The Monsters Of Folk and co-produced Jenny Lewis’ solo debut – oh and he’s also been making records on his own, most recently releasing his sixth studio effort Hold Time.

Bloggy Goodness: CYHSY Offer Up Statue

The demise of former ultra-hyped blog buzz band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah may have been a bit exaggerated by the same sources that had previously hailed them.
