Grousing The Aisles: DVD Edition

YouTube has done some good things and some bad things for music fans. Sure it’s great to be able to call up old footage in seconds, but the quality is pretty freakin’ crappy. Have you ever tried watching YouTube videos on anything bigger than a computer monitor? So those who like to watch full shows of high-quality video on their flat screens turn to torrent sites to download DVD files.

The Traders Den and Dimeadozen have hundreds of DVDs to download, burn and watch. If you have no idea how to burn a DVD, leave a comment below and I will help you through the process. If you don’t have a DVD burner, suck it up and pay the $40 to be able to download some amazing free vids. This week’s Grousing The Aisles looks at four great DVDs that you have to see to believe…

Smashing Pumpkins 06/02/2007 PRO-SHOT (DVD, MP3):

The Smashing Pumpkins reunion has been eagerly awaited ever since the first Zwan album was released. People were a little put off by the omissions of James Iha and D’arcy from the lineup, yet all of the early reviews have been good. Now you can judge for yourself by downloading the video (or audio) of the Pumpkins set from the Rock-Am Ring festival in Germany from this past Saturday night.

I was throughly impressed by the Pumpkins performance. Some of Billy Corgan’s new songs are destined to become anthems. The first single, Tarantula, has that classic Pumpkins sound that mixes the angst of grunge with the beauty of power-pop. Other worthwhile new tunes include Starz and Bleeding the Orchid, and the Pumpkins did a nice job of mixing in some old classics with the new material. Today, 1979 and Cherub Rock all sounded fucking awesome, bringing me back to my days in high school driving around and listening to Siamese Dream. Corgan and company return to the states later this month.
