After a May 2009 chance meeting at Bjork's memorable one-off collaborative concert with the Dirty Projectors at the Housing Works Bookstore in New York City where someone suggested they venture into a similar partnership with one another, the pair made good on the advice and got together to dream up this surprising golden nugget of an album they are calling Love This Giant.
As George Lewis Jr. and Co. took the stage at the Crescent Ballroom on Sept. 4, it took about two minutes to start constructing a fantasy what he might be like if Prince were to take him under his tiny purple wing and spin him into a sexy stage-dominating Rock God. It’s not to say that George Lewis Jr. aka Twin Shadow is in need of improvement. It’s just that the fantasy is not so far fetched. In fact, Lewis has all the traits of a Prince protégé: laser-like focus, miles of sex appeal, chops that don’t stop and a voice that croons and emotes. Oh yes, Prince would have snatched this little puppy right up.
For a while in the 1990’s, the Smashing Pumpkins had a whirlwind ride, spitting out singles such as “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” and “Zero” that enraptured listeners with a searing dose of alternative corrosiveness from the psyche of frontman Billy Corgan. It touched a nerve and brought the band to the height of fame. Now in 2012, Iha has put together a reflective solo album titled Look To The Sky and last month took a little time while home in New York to call in to talk about his “cool” youth and what inspired him to go back into the studio.

It was a completely full house in the Marquee on Tuesday, September 11th, and everyone was in a celebratory mood, despite the historic date. Shortly before the 10 pm stage time, chants of “Passion Pit” began, and most of the capacity crowd joined in. The house lights flicked off, causing a roar, and purple lights from the sides of the stage glowed as frontman Michael Angelakos and the five other members that comprise Passion Pit walked out. Wearing an untucked dress shirt and tie, Angelakos screams, “Hands in the air! All the way in the back!” The vast majority of the crowd complies and the synth organ intro for “Take a Walk” starts the show.
When Poison breaks into “Nothin’ But A Good Time” they could very well be singing the theme song for this summer traveling extravaganza with headliners Def Leppard and the back-in-black-leather Lita Ford. Dubbed the Rock Of Ages tour, these 80’s icons have been kicking up their heels and definitely having a good time rolling across America playing in the heat and humidity of the sheds. “It’s hot and sticky in here,” expressed Bret Michaels happily. “Just the way I like it.”

There are but a few certainties when it comes to the Hopscotch Music Festival: Attendees will experience music they’ve never experienced before, their tastes and perceptions will be challenged by much of this music, and they’ll love every shin-shattering city street step they take while doing it.
