Allman Brothers Band @ United Palace – Night Three: Setlist and Recap

As torrential rain fell & hurricane strength winds howled outside, the Allman Brothers Band continued their annual March Madness run at the United Palace tonight in New York City. The Allmans dusted off a number of their big guns for the first time on the run including Whipping Post, Dreams & In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. The latter was played with Gregg Allman Band & Jaimoe’s Jaaasz Band keyboardist Bruce Katz, who also sat in on The Sky is Crying.

Katz, who was recently profiled for a Jambands.com feature, took over keyboard duties for Gregg Allman towards the end of the ABB’s fall tour last year while Gregg’s shoulder healed, so he was quite comfortable wailing away on both tunes. Bruce’s appearance keeps up the trend of this year’s guests coming from within the Allman Brothers Band family on the heals of last night’s guest spot from Susan Tedeschi – Derek Trucks’ wife.

Every note of tonight’s show was broadcast live on Moogis.com and once again the quality was stellar. Moogis users were treated to a surprise at setbreak when ABB drummer and Moogis founder Butch Trucks stopped by the live chat for a few minutes. Besides pleasantries, Butch revealed that the instrumental they played in the first set was named Bag End. This tune was debuted at last year’s 40th Anniversary run and was previously thought to be titled Orpheo. Let’s look at the Night Three setlist…
