Cocker’d: Gov’t Mule Needs A Stinkin’ Theme

One of my contributions to the amazing Hidden Track New Year’s Eve Concert Guide was a superlative awarded to Gov’t Mule entitled the “Theme? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Theme Award.” You see the Mule will return for a New Year’s Run at NYC’s Beacon Theatre on December 30 and 31 and unlike in past years the group didn’t announce a theme for their annual New Year’s celebration. I thought they’d stick with mostly originals since they’ve been on hiatus in 2011.

Apparently I was wrong. Today, Warren and his quartet announced that the theme of this year’s New Year’s show will be “Mad Mules & Englishmen” as the group will be performing their take on Joe Cocker’s legendary Mad Dogs & Englishmen LP during the three-set show on December 31. We’re taking our award back! But hey, I did say “you never know what will happen when Warren Haynes is calling the shots.” Tickets for both Mule shows are on sale now.
