Most of the stops on this tour have been familiar venues for the band with the exception of nTelos Pavilion at Harbor Center in Portsmouth, VA and this weekend’s shed. The $35 million Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre opened two years ago and has won raves for its superb acoustics.

Saturday, 07/03/2010 Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park , Alpharetta, GA

Set 1: Character Zero, Destiny Unbound, Rift, McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters, Bathtub Gin, Mountains in the Mist, NICU, Gumbo, My Sweet One, Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan, Strange Design, Sanity, Run Like an Antelope

Set 2: Rock and Roll, Prince Caspian, Tweezer > Slave to the Traffic Light, Bouncing Around the Room, Possum, Backwards Down the Number Line > Harry Hood, Loving Cup

Encore: Sleeping Monkey, Tweezer Reprise

Notes: Character Zero opened a show for the first time ever. McGrupp was played by request with Trey taking the sign from the crowd and holding it up before starting the song. Trey forgot the second verse to Sanity, asking “How the hell does the second verse go again?”

In the first set the quartet continued their assault on last year’s record for most songs played at least once in a year by debuting Destiny Unbound, McGrupp – performed by request, My Sweet One, Strange Design and Sanity for the first time in 2010. The second stanza focused on classics that have gotten plenty of stage time in 2010 including Possum, Slave to the Traffic Light, Tweezer and Prince Caspian. The openers also showed the wide disparity between the two sets’ setlists: Rock and Roll opened the second set for the fourth time this tour – all on Saturday nights, while Character Zero – which has never served as a show opener – kicked off the concert.

Phish returns to Alpharetta tomorrow for the tour closer.
