President Barack Obama welcomed a cavalcade of blues musicians to The White House this evening for a special concert that brought together great bluesmen and women from every living generation including B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Mick Jagger, Trombone Shorty, Warren Haynes, Jeff Beck, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, Keb Mo, Gary Clark Jr. and Shemekia Copeland. Each of those artists took turns fronting a formidable house band directed by Booker T. Jones during the two-hour performance. For the grand finale, the Prez joined the assembled “White House Blues All-Stars” for a rousing rendition of Sweet Home Chicago in which Obama belted a few lines…

B.B. King opening the show with Let The Good Times Roll featuring nearly all of the evening’s musicans, Jagger’s version of Miss You, Haynes, Tedeschi and Trucks tackling Etta James’ I’d Rather Go Blind and Gary Clark Jr.’s raucous Catfish Blues were among the concert’s many highlights.  If you missed the live webcast, the event will be shown on PBS as “Red, White and Blues” this Monday.
