The Week That Was: Xmas Jam 2009

Unlike the slow pace of last week, we weren’t at a loss for stories this week. In fact, we didn’t even get to the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam lineup announcement on Friday. The initial lineup of moe., Counting Crows, Ani DiFranco and Mule doesn’t get our juices pumping, but there’s still plenty of time for more artists to be announced. Plus, the special guest roster of Trombone Shorty, DJ Logic, Audley Freed, Jackie Greene, Kevn Kinney, Eric Krasno, Col. Bruce Hampton and Robert Kearns shows promise.

We did get to plenty of other topics including this month’s Blips featuring a look at Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, J. Tillman and The Black Hollies.  Also, we dorked out with a list of all of the Panic/Allmans’ collaborations from their recently completed tour and a survey asking our readers to let us know whether they scored tickets for the Phish Fall Tour through the pre-sale or the public onsales.

DaveO had another busy week with the Sweet Virginia Cover Wars, a stellar Last Week’s Sauce and a list of ten bands that covered entire albums live. As far as reviews, Bryan Rodgers wrote about the Panic/Allmans show in Raleigh, Eli and Balaji covered Yonder in Boston while Jonathan covered Yonder in NYC and Wade Wilby told us all about Wilco’s homecoming shows in Chicago. Finally, we kicked off our new Jam Cruise Files column by speaking with Joel Cummins about his experiences on the boats.

Thanks, as always, for spending your time reading Hidden Track.

  1. Is it just me or does the inclusion of Counting Crows totally detract from any credibility of this event?

    Those guys are tools.
