For the eighth year in a row the Village Voice will bring their Siren Festival back to Coney Island. The all day FREE fest will take place on Saturday July 19, and once again features a fantastic line up for those willing to take the D,F,N or Q train to its last stop. This year’s bill features the likes of Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Broken Social Scene, Beach House, The Dodos, Annuals and more.
If riding the Cyclone and eating Nathan’s hot dogs while listening to some great indie-rock isn’t for you, then maybe one of these upcoming tours will be:
- MMJ flesh out dates for their Evil Urges tour (begins: 08/18)
- Shoegaze legends My Bloody Valentine announce their first U.S. dates in over a decade (begins: 09/19)
- The best bar band in America, The Hold Steady, announce a handful of summer dates (begins: 06/08)
- Former Blips artists Fleet Foxes head out on their first national headlining tour (begins: 05/24)
- R&B legends Earth, Wind & Fire will keep busy all summer long (begins: 06/07)
- Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd team up for some shed dates (begins: 08/08)
- Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings bring their funk and soul revival to a town near you (begins: 05/31)
- I’m declaring this the worst tour of the summer: Staind, 3 Doors Down & Hinder join forces (begins: 07/04)
Finally, thought I’d give a shout out to one of my personal favorite bands touring today — Philadelphia’s own Dr. Dog who revealed dates for a lengthy tour to support their latest album, Fate, which will hit stores on July 22nd. The psychedelic indie-popsters will play a two night run in New York City at the Bowery Ballroom and the Music Hall of Williamsburg that will serve as their record release parties.

Dr. Dog sold out the Mercury Lounge last night. They played a few new songs and mostly old ones, it was a nice intro to the band.
Good to hear. Had tickets for the show last night, but couldn’t make it. I already have my tickets to see them in July.
Dr. Dog rules my world.
