70 Years Ago Today – The Late Master Vocalist Robert Palmer Was Born (Watch/Listen “Sailing Shoes / Hey Julia / Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley”)

70 years ago today (1/19/49), Robert Palmer, singer, songwriter, member of Vinegar Joe, Power Station and solo artist, (1986 US No.1 & UK No.5 single ‘Addicted To Love’) was born. Palmer was known for his sophisticated style and distinctive, soulful voice that showcased a mix of soul, jazz, rock, pop, reggae and blues. He found commercial success with the Power Station in the 80’s and his famous music videos, directed by British fashion photographer Terence Donovan, for the hits “Addicted to Love”, “Simply Irresistible” and “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On” featured women simulating playing instruments.

Check Palmer performing “Sailing Shoes / Hey Julia / Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley” live at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ on 10/13/79.
