Honeycut/DJ Krush: Mighty, San Franscisco, CA 10/26/07

Quannum Record’s Honeycut opened for DJ Krush at Club Mighty, a San Franciscan after-hours Mecca, for a special pre-Halloween appearance. Krush has been touring the US supporting a new and highly acclaimed live DVD release, and gracing fans with rare appearances across the country.

Honeycut did their thing, delivering their signature hip hop, funk, rock cross-over sound to a tough Bay Area audience of DJ’s and turntable fanatics. Fans of Honeycut were treated to an eclectic mix of songs from their debut album The Day I Turned To Glass, along with a few surprises like their set closer, a funky live breakbeat rendition of "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life."

It was surprising to see the love and overwhelming response that DJ Krush received when he stepped to the stage, but it makes sense with the Bay Area being such a pioneering area for turntablism, and a breeding ground of world class DJs like Shadow and Qbert. Krush has established himself over the course of his long career as one of the most prolific, diverse, and original DJ’s on the scene—and he has received the respect of hip hop fans worldwide, especially in his native land of Japan.

Krush ripped right into his extraordinary set which was jam packed with incredibly smooth mixing and highly skilled beat juggling. The crowd went especially wild when Krush’s more well known tracks like "Kemuri" were thrown in the mix. As a special treat for the Bay Area crowd, Krush seamlessly threw a couple of classic DJ Shadow tracks into the mix as he rode his set out in style.

It is a rare and powerful to experience a catch a live DJ Krush performance. His phenomenal DJ set featuring such a deep, smooth, and emotional sound left the awestruck crowd thoroughly blown away.
