There’s sad news out of Brooklyn this morning as Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have canceled the release of their new album and touring plans for the remainder of 2013. Jones has been diagnosed with stage-one bile duct cancer. The good news is that it was caught early and Sharon is expected to make a full recovery. However, the surgery she will endure will require a long period of convalescence.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings were expected to release Give The People What They Want on August 6. Once Jones gets back on her feet, the band will resume touring and put out the LP.
Here’s the official statement from Jones:
“Over the last few weeks I haven’t felt good and I didn’t know what was going on. We sadly had to cancel shows while I went through a series of tests and short hospital stays. We just found out that I have a stage-one tumor on my bile duct. Luckily we caught it really early and fast and the doctors say it’s operable and curable!
I will be having surgery very soon and will have to rest and recover. I’ll be staying in touch and keeping my fans and friends updated on my progress. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want!”

Just watched S. jones & the dap kings on the Jimmy Fallon shoe and enjoyed. First time listening to your music and had to research. I will definently add you guys to my collection. I just want to wish you well as you go through treatment. I pray that you make a full recovery and my prayers are with you & your family.
