Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley Headline Daptone Super Soul Revue at the Apollo – Dec 4, 5 & 6

Daptone Records and the legendary Apollo Theater announce three nights of THE DAPTONE SUPER SOUL REVUE. Following appearances in Europe, Australia and at SXSW, The Soul Revue will be heading to New York City for the first time. Held on December 4, 5 and 6, the shows will be headlined by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings along with Charles Bradley, and supported each of the three nights by a combination of all Daptone Records acts including: Antibalas, Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens, The Sugarman Three, The Budos Band, Menahan Street Band, The Extraordinaires, The Como Mamas and Saun & Starr—many of whom will grace the Apollo stage for the first time.

The epic three-night experience will be recorded by the labels house engineers in glorious “Daptone Sound” for release as the soul music labels first live album, The Daptone Soul Revue, Live at the Apollo, and will follow many other famous live recordings done from the Apollo stage including the perennial classic James Brown Live at the Apollo to Chris Rocks popular comedy album Bigger & Blacker.

For the uninitiated, The Daptone Super Soul Revue is no ordinary label showcase. Though the soulful showmanship and raw talent of each artist in Daptone’s legendary stable is well-known, the combination of these acts in to one unified, cooperative performance is a sum greater than the whole — a collaboration manifesting on stage mirroring the communal studio vibe, common musical philosophy, and deep family culture that is unique to this Brooklyn crew. In the tradition of the great revues of days gone by — those of Stax, Motown, James Brown, and Ike & Tina — the show is one seamless act. Presided over by the consummate wordsmith, Master of Ceremonies Binky Griptite, the show moves from one line-up to the next without breaks, employing well coordinated musical transitions that could only be conceived and executed by musicians that have honed their craft shoulder to shoulder both on stage and in the studio for over a decade.
