The Allman Brothers Band Call It A Career With Three Set Finale (SETLIST)

The Allman Brothers Band concluded their monumental 45 year history with a three set final show blowout at New York’s, Beacon Theater Tuesday night (10/28). With Derek Trucks playing Duane Allman’s famed 1957 Goldtop Les Paul at spots throughout the night, the evening echoed the departed founding guitarist, including a version of “Will The Circle Be Unbroken?”  Fittingly, the band concluded the performance and their live career with a cover of Muddy Water’s “Trouble No More”; the very first song the band performed together in 1969.

Although there has been small rumblings about a final studio album from the band, nothing yet has been confirmed in that regards.  Meanwhile founder Gregg Allman will continual to tour as a solo artist with his own talented backing band. And of course guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks have juggled numerous other projects over the years, but will remain as prolific as ever with Gov’t Mule and Tedechi Trucks Band.  It should also be noted that founding member and active musician Dicky Betts did not join the band for the final show or at any time  during the band’s Beacon run.

SiriusXM’s Classic Vinyl channel will air a recording of the show the next day, October 29, starting at noon ET.

    1. Aaron: Saying you can’t believe they didn’t play “freebird” makes as much sense as saying you can’t believe they didn’t play “Rock Around the Clock” or “Blitzkrieg Bop.” They played their version of a great blues tune–the same tune they ever jammed to back at the band’s inception in ’69. I’d say it was an appropriate choice.

  1. Without a doubt the greatest live band of all time. From 1972-2010, I’ve seen them roughly 20 times (not to mention Greg,Dickey, the Mule and Derek multiple times),and have always left the gigs truly amazed. I’ve seen all the best bands in the last 50 years and only Led Zeppelin came close. ‘Nuf said!
