Grateful Dead To Welcome Anastasio, Hornsby, Chimenti For 50th Anniversary Shows

The 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead has naturally led to loads of speculation over the last few months with fans wondering not only if the “Core Four” – Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann – would play, but who would be filling in the monumental role of handling the late guitarist Jerry Garcia. Today Billboard has confirmed what many fans have been hoping for with the announcement that the Dead will be joined by Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, Bruce Hornsby, and Furthur/Rat Dog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti for a 3-day run at Chicago’s Soldier Field over July 4th weekend.

Working with Madison House Presents, Peter Shapiro (owner of Relix and Brooklyn Bowl) managed to book the shows July 3-5 at the 55,000 capacity venue. Soldier Field may seem like an odd choice of venue considering that the band could easily play their own festival, Shapiro chose it because it was where Jerry Garcia played his last show with the band on July 9, 1995 before passing away that August.

The band has created a website just for the event and has posted the following ticket info:

“Tickets will be offered through Grateful Dead Ticketing mail order, internet presale, as well as a public on sale via Ticketmaster.

  1. The only way the tickets won’t be counterfeit, is if they are able to prove to you they are season ticket holders. ✌ just giving someone a piece of information that is well needed and helpful. Love & Light Family.
