Punk rock reggae trio STATE RADIO have announced an early 2009 US tour that kicks off on January 14 in Tucson, AZ and wraps on February 21 in Providence, RI. The socio-politically conscious band has been on the road since early 2008 supporting their sophomore studio album Year Of The Crow (Ruff Shod/February 08), which Metro NY described as “a biting collection of 13 tracks taking aim at, among other things, U.S. detention facilities in Guantanamo Bay and policies in South America, not to mention Halliburton and the current state of affairs in Darfur.”
State Radio will play their last show of the year on December 26 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, and are calling it an early “welcome to the neighborhood” party for President Elect Barack Obama. Additionally, frontman Chad Stoke Urmston will play two rare, solo acoustic shows in his hometown of Boston on December 6 and 7 as part of a weeklong celebration leading up to the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10.
The band just wrapped their 24-city “Take Back The Country” tour with a sold out show at New York’s Terminal 5 over Thanksgiving weekend; the tour’s purpose was to spread the message of respect, fairness, justice and equality, leading up to the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Prior to these dates, State Radio played with Rage Against The Machine at an anti-war rally at Denver’s Democratic National Convention, joined Tom Morello for a handful of dates on the “Justice Tour” and the Dave Matthews Band for a few shows, and appeared at most of the major U.S. festivals this summer including: Bonnaroo, Summerfest, Wakarusa, Rothbury Festival and Mile High Festival.
Currently, State Radio are in the studio working on their next album, set for release later next year. More information will follow shortly.
