Get Out Your Tallboys: WSP Summer Tour

Ten years ago you never could have convinced me that Widespread Panic would be the biggest ticket seller in that little jam corner of the live music scene. But sure enough, this summer WSP will be the only jamband headlining amphitheater and theater shows by themselves across the country. God bless the power of large beers, Jimmy Herring, dancing like a chicken and good ol’ Southern Rock.

The lengthy 26-show excursion starts with appearances at Wakarusa and Bonnaroo before hitting old standbys like Radio City Music Hall, the Chicago Theatre, Red Rocks, and The Backyard. I’m most excited about Widespread’s first appearance at the beautiful Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the site of the original Woodstock. Ace and I are huge fans of that gorgeous venue, and I can’t think of a better place to see Panic. The tour dates follow below:

  2. hey scott,
Nick c here, a good friend of raskins, just wanted to say really been enjoying your reviews and look forward to seeing you at umprhey’s at the factory june 1st.

  3. Hey Nick, I can’t wait for UM takes the Electric Factory part 4. Thanks for reading!

raqattack1 – Bethel is pretty close to NYC, I expect to be home by 1 or 1:30. It could be worse.

  4. Just saw that Bobby Dylan is playing Bethel Woods in June…man, these guys did a great job this year. Maybe this place will finally be the first viable business on that land!

RAQattack, it’s definitely not that bad, but I certainly understand your point. The Phil & GRAB show was a Sunday night, started late, and having already seen two shows on the tour, we bolted in between Phil’s two sets in order to get home at a reasonable hour. At the same time, Radio City on the weekend is awesome, too.

  5. Bethel Woods is my favorite venue that sounds like it was named after a 325-pound defensive lineman. Next is the Ntelos Pavilion.
