As one quarter of the Texas folk group The Trishas, Jamie Lin Wilson has spent much of her musical career as one of the elements that contribute to the group’s larger distinctive harmonies. Now the singer-songwriter is devoting her “honeyed tenor twang” to her own project, the debut solo album Holidays & Wedding Rings, which comes out on May 19. The album sees Wilson exercising her songwriting skills in true Texas fashion, reflecting on motherhood, love, her own musical path, and the old cars and wide open spaces of her home deep in the Texas Hill Country. It may technically be a solo album with Wilson as the primary songwriter and singer, but she invited a slew of fellow musicians from the Austin scene to help her out in different ways. Established and respected artists like Jon Dee Graham, Wade Bowen, Emily Bell, Gordy Quist of Band of Heathens and more all played a part in giving Holidays & Wedding Rings its Texas-tinged Americana sound. Still, Wilson’s gorgeous voice remains the highlight of it all as it is the vehicle for delivering her charming, down home lyrics that make you want to kick back on a big old wraparound porch with a glass of sweet tea and watch the fireflies on a summer night.
That feeling may be best encapsulated in the tune “Yours & Mine”, which we are excited to premiere on Glide. The tune carries a bit of a honky tonk twang while Wilson sings about her home and family, aided by the lovely Emily Bell backup vocals. Commenting on the tune, Wilson says, “My husband and I recently moved from Yancey, Texas (pop. 200) to D’Hanis, TX (pop. 600!). We moved into a house that was built by his uncle in 1983. It’s beautiful and perfect and has rotten boards and uneven steps. I’m proud of our little family and our life, and this song is about that.”
