HBO Announces Premiere Date for ‘Show Me A Hero’

From David Simon, the creator of The Wire, and Paul Haggis, director of the Best Picture Winner Crash comes a brand new HBO miniseries event, Show Me A Hero.

Set to debut on Sunday, August 16, the six-part series brings to life the non-fiction book by Lisa Belkin, which examined the real life event in Yonkers, New York that exposed undercurrents of racism and fear that threatened to rip the community apart.

Oscar Isaac plays Mayor Nick Wasicsko. Newly elected, the young mayor receives orders from the federal court to build low-income housing in a mostly white, mostly middle class section of town. His attempts to do so cause him to become embroiled in a racial controversy that leads to the disruption of municipal politics and divides his city, potentially at the cost of his own future and career.

Written by Simon and William F. Zorzi and directed by Haggis, Show Me A Hero explores the notions of home, family, race, and class and how these issues affect the fabric of society. The star-studded cast also includes Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina, Winona Ryder, and many others. While further details are sparse for now, be on the lookout for trailers as we approach the premiere date. The book is available for purchase on Amazon.

Show Me A Hero premieres August 16 and airs every Sunday at 9/8 central.
