Friday’s Leftovers

This week dragged on and on, but we’ve finally made it to Friday. I wanted to raise the bar higher this week with plenty of links, so let’s get down to business:

• Trey Anastasio is also trying to raise the bar with his latest round of shows
• Another preview of Trey’s weekend shows in San Francisco
• A rare Velvet Underground record that was bought for 75 cents is going for over $125,000 on eBay
• Digitaldreamdoor features a list of the 100 best jambands of all-time (this list is ripe for the picking, by the way — Primus is considered a jamband, DMB is considered good, and as my friend pointed out, God Street Wine rocks so hard they come in at #83 and #90)
• Under current copyright law, music becomes public domain 50 years after its release in Britain. Paul McCartney and other musicians are pushing for a change before some of the big hits of the British Invasion turn 50
• Steve Winwood and Pete Townshend head a tribute concert in memory of Traffic’s Jim Capaldi.
• Parent company Glide Magazine features an interview with drummer Ilya Stemkovsky of Brothers Past
• Jambands features a great interview with Jeff Sipe of Trey Anastasio’s band and ARU
• Also from Jambands, the website expands their Elsewhere column into the video realm
• Some photos from last week’s Rhythm Devils concert at the Warfield
• Les Claypool has put together quite the New Years Eve shindig
• It’s not very often I get to link stories from the New Jersey Jewish Standard, but they’ve put out quite an interesting piece on the NJ club Mexicali Blues
• Newsday features a review of Ryan Adams’ recent shows at Town Hall (and see Chilly Jackwater’s review below)
• Wow, I didn’t realize Gov’t Mule’s High and Mighty was a political statement
• Rob Mitchum of Pitchfork provides a great review of Neil Young’s Fillmore East release. If you haven’t gotten this album yet, you are truly missing out
• Grateful Dead: The Game has won the prestigious Favorite New Board Game West of the Mississippi award
• Ween puts up eight amazing clips on YouTube. I like this trend of band’s leaking stuff on youtube.
• Friend of HT, Bizarro Jerry, does it again with his Phish Summer ’97 sendspace project
