Leftovers: Led Zep to Meet About Touring

Rolling Stone’s David Fricke sat down with John Paul Jones for an exclusive interview about Led Zeppelin’s reunion show. The big news out of the article is that the members of the band are gonna meet later this month to discuss the future. Is there any chance in hell this reunion tour doesn’t happen?

Jones only offers lukewarm praise for Jason Bonham’s efforts on the drums, which only further fuels speculation of a new drummer coming on board for the tour. So read that, and then let’s end the week with some heady, heady linkage:

Finally, let’s end the week with a brand spanking new video — check out The Avett Brothers’ Paranoia In B Flat Major, courtesy of the folks at Spinner.

  1. Wakarusa really stepped outside the box with its initial lineup — the Lips and Keller Williams?! No way! There must be some mistake, I can’t find Franti’s name anywhere near this list. Anyway, good lineup — not enough to get me to Kansas, but not a bad list. Dr. Dog, the Heavy Pets, TLG, not bad.

  2. That Special Evening of Duets looks pretty interesting…I love the fact that Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville are getting back together for Billy G’s honor — they don’t know much, but they know they love him. Awesome. I’d love to see that live, just for novelty’s sake. Also, Jackie Greene is doing duets with Phil and Ramblin’ Jack Elliot? Pick one, kid, just pick one.

  3. Led Zep should get Sir Joe Russo on drums. I mean, if the band is mentioned on HiddenTrack more than twice in a month, usually Russo’s playing drums. Led Zep needs to get with the program.

  4. Hey, you got to give it up to Russo. And while you’re at it, seriously give it up for Marco Benevento and Brad Bar. Their gig last night at Sullivan Hall was packed out and blazing. I’d even have to give it up to Sonya Kitchell who added some hot female energy and sang a sweet version of “Can’t Find My Way Home.”

  5. Does anyone fawn over Joe Russo more than Hidden Track? Not sure it’s possible. Zeppelin picking him up would basically be the best Billy Beane/Moneyball move of all time.

The show last night was great…well, I only caught the first set, than my dayjob ass had to leave at setbreak. That first set was SICK. Lotta grooves, lotta improve, and I think they played for 45 straight minutes to start the show before even taking a beat to stop. Unbelievable chemistry between those three.

  6. The Wakarusa lineup is pretty wild. Considering it has pretty much been the Bonnaroo lineup the past couple years, I’m not sure what to make of it. It almost seems… less commercial this year. If that makes sense.

    Jackie Greene is the tits.

  7. I think I might fawn over him more, Ace. The word that kept popping up in my head repeatedly as I continuously inched closer to the stage was “mancrush.” Last night was indeed SICK. All of it, although 1st set was def. the better of the two.

  8. check out greenhaus 12-year music cycle piece above.
i originally thought the piece was also going to delve into the ‘ole 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc… of jambands. moe. really is the torch-bearer now. agreed mike. good work.
