Phish lyricist Tom Marshall spoke with PopMatters’ Robert Costa on Tuesday, and couldn’t stop talking about Phish getting back together. Tommy told Costa that he has been writing and recording with Trey “for the past four months,” and stated emphatically that “Trey wants Phish to come back.”

Marshall explained that getting Phish together wasn’t as simple as making a phone call to the other three members of the band:
“Reforming something like (Phish) has so many pieces, it’s a very complex, three-dimensional, four-dimensional, jigsaw puzzle,” said Marshall, adding “No one wants Phish back more than Trey.”
We’re certainly excited to see that Trey has enlisted the help of his longtime writing partner, because some of the tunes he wrote himself after the breakup were real stinkers. The question now becomes when exactly will Phish get together. Apparently Trey’s got the tunes, so I’d expect a studio album to be recorded before they start thinking about playing shows. Marshall goes into much more detail about his recording sessions with Trey, and how proud he is that the Bad Lieutenant seems to have put his issues behind him. We’re sure we haven’t heard the last of this story, so stay tuned to HT for the latest on the beginning of the post-Break Up era.
