Friday Mix Tape: Revisiting Bonnaroo 2005

Strap yourself into the Hidden Track Time Machine, as we set the controls for an era when New Orleans was whole and no one knew if there would ever be another NHL game. We’re talking about the glorious year of 2005. This week’s Mix Tape collects the highlights of Bonnaroo 2005 to keep your earholes happy.

We start with a frenetic Mike’s Song from the Duo with Mike Gordon before giving way to Warren and the Mule for their Temple Of The Dog/Traffic mash-up Hunger Strike > Dear Mr. Fantasy > Hunger Strike. At the time Perpetual Groove were relative unknowns, but they turned heads with this monstrous Speed Queen. Next, we check out The Word’s transcendent I’ll Fly Away and MMJ’s thrash-reggae slammer, Off The Record. And we couldn’t end the mix without including the Crowes’ cover of Brokedown Palace, DBT’s Where The Devil Don’t Stay or Modest Mouse’s Satin In A Coffin. Enjoy, my friends.
