Black Cab Sessions has quickly become one of my favorite music sites out there. If you are not familiar with the concept: Bands or portions of bands pile into the back seat of a cab with their instruments to perform one song in one take and the video is then released on the website. There have been some absolute gems and I recommend killing some time taking in some of the past performances.
The most recent chapter has taken it to a new level. The Black Cab Sessions were featured on ABC news recently and the anchor jokingly said at the end of the feature, “Pianists Need Not Apply”. Seeing this as a challenge, they got three of the members of Man Man to record a session – including front-man keyboard (is that a Fender Rhodes?) player Honus Honus. Using power generated from the car’s cigarette lighter and two of the horn players from the band, they run through a track off their 2008 release Rabbit Habits.
