Friday Mix Tape: What’s My Name?

Naming a song after somebody has been a tradition carried on from the early days of rock when Little Richard recorded Long Tall Sally and Chuck Berry immortalized Johnny B. Goode on vinyl. This week’s Friday Mix Tape features six killer songs containing someone’s name in the title. I’m still waiting for a decent song called Scotty.

We start off with God Street Wine’s studio version of Goodnight Gretchen from their self-released debut album, Bag. Let’s continue with Steve Perry’s biggest hit as a solo artist Oh Sherrie and Paul Simon’s demo version of Duncan from 1971. Next up, we’ve got Phish calling up the Giant Country Horns for a brass-tastic Suzy Greenberg from my first show: 04/15/1994. Before we call it a night enjoy Tenacious D’s ballsy ode to fucking Lee and Hall and Oates’ gorgeous Sara Smile.
