Trey Takes Nashville: Part Two – Divided Sky, Let Me Lie, Time Turns Elastic Videos

Trey Anastasio and Orchestra Nashville proudly presented the world premiere of Anastasio’s 30-minute Time Turns Elastic last night at the Ryman Theatre in Nashville. The ensemble also performed Divided Sky and our friends on the scene couldn’t stop raving about how well the tune sounded. Thanks to YouTube user JeremyandJoy we can all enjoy the Divided Sky:

Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5 (all videos from Dress Rehearsal)

The one complaint about the Divided Sky was the in your face vocals by Big Red. You can see the cringe-worthy moments on the video. As far as Time Turns Elastic, two clips have surfaced so far and our friends on the scene thought most of it was amazing while perhaps some parts should’ve been left on the cutting room floor. The folks I spoke with compared one of the segments to Fluffhead and another to Tela – those are the type of comparisons that we like to hear. For the encore, Ernie busted out the acoustic for Let Me Lie before letting it rip on the new ‘doc. Get your bike out with this clip from YouTube user slowbriety.

Stay tuned for a complete review of last night’s concert.

  1. I can assure you all that the actual Divided Sky was stellar. These clips are from the dress rehearsal. Overall, I’d say tonight was a magical night. Trey sounded good and played immaculately. More to come later…

  2. These clips are indeed just the dress rehearsal, which was great. Sound levels were being set and it was not “the night”. Actual night performance was unbelievable, such high energy and flawless playing. Time Turns Elastic was fabulous, a work of art.

  3. I was gonna say… did Trey put on a suit partway through the show? So I assume the 2nd clip of the slow minor-key section of Time Turns Elastic is from the actual performance?

Can’t wait to hear some more of this, it’s been too long.

  4. Sickness, I’m digging the this Sky right now. I hope when The Phish comes back that they play a Divided Sky with the whole band and orchestra.

(side note, a friend of mine was at the PBS/McConnell show in NYC the other night and said the comment that at the end of the night they were introducing the band during a jam and after mentioning about how one of the other members of the group got fired from a band said “and that’s Page, he got fired from Phish – but it doesn’t matter because they’re getting back together anyway!” Crowd responded appropriately)

  5. Nice to see that trey busted out “Le Tombeau de Couperin”, one of his favorite songs of all time.

A little Ravel to the dome!

  6. I was at the Ryman. Divided sky was spectacular. I also really enjoyed the times turns elastic, but honestly, I could have done without most of the vocals. I think he should have let the ‘doc do the talking…

Overall a great, if quick (2 hrs total), night at the Ryman
