Afternoon Records is proud to announce the October 13 release of The Shape of Energy, the sophomore release from the Sioux Falls, SD band We All Have Hooks For Hands. The nine-piece group are giving away an mp3 of the infectious new song "Made Up of Tiny Lights," as well as streaming it on their MySpace page, and they’ve revealed the track listing and album art to give fans an early peak at what’s is to come from the forthcoming release.
The Shape of Energy is the follow up to their ambitious DIY debut The Pretender (recorded in a self-built recording studio with self-taught production skills), which won recognition for its curiously (on account of the bands size) stripped down sound, resembling a full-throttle more gleeful incarnation of Neutral Milk Hotel. Of The Pretender, The Tripwire noted that "the sheer energy and uniqueness makes this quite a treat." The Shape of Energy picks up where the band left off, and sees them expanding and growing as a collective of musicians. On the album, distinctive vocals and layered sing-a-long choruses are accompanied by a loose yet enveloping quilt of bright guitar riffs, floating horns, keyboards, violin, and dueling drummers. All laden with slight echo and openness to form a sound that’s big and bold, yet at the same time spread out enough so as not to overwhelm.
