Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Bon’s Skinny Love

If you’ve been paying attention to the Best Of lists that have been rolling out these last couple of weeks the one album that seems to be floating near the top has been Bon Iver’s debut album – For Emma, Forever Ago. I previously drooled over this one when I put together my Top 6 Of The First 6 so if you unfamiliar with the album’s story check it out.

Last week on a balmy December night, I got a chance to finally see what those beautifully, spooky songs sounded like in a live setting – after missing their set at Outside Lands this summer – when the band kicked off the first of three New York City-area performances at Town Hall and was absolutely blown away.

Surrounded by more guitars than they have songs, Justin Vernon & Co. ran through their entire debut along with all four songs off their upcoming EP Blood Bank to a hush and enraptured audience. While the entire show was moving, the standouts of the night were their jaw-dropping cover of Sarah Siskind’s Lovin’s For Fools, the group sing-a-long during the crescendo of Wolves (Part I & II) and their fantastic three drummer version of Skinny Love. During their stay in the Big Apple the band also squeezed in a stop by the Ed Sullivan Theater to perform Skinny Love on The Late Show check it out…

Bon Iver has a few more dates scheduled over the next week or so including a tour closing stop in their hometown of Eau Claire, WI at the State Theater.
