On May 12, politically charged alt.country troubadour Steve Earle is set to release his latest album, Townes, a 15 song tribute record honoring the work of his friend and mentor – the late Townes Van Zandt. Earle, who selected the tracks based on his personal connection to them, will hit the road later this month in support with a 14 date East Coast-focused tour, with additional dates scattered throughout the rest of the summer.
If you’re not into a night of Steve Earle paying tribute to Townes, then maybe you’ll want to hit one of these recently announced tours…
- Indie rock godfathers Sonic Youth hit the road
- Shock-rocker Alice Cooper hits the state fair circuit
- Folk legend Joan Baez maps out a lengthy summer run
- John Vanderslice puts together a monster US tour
- Cornershop heads out for a short UK jaunt
- Stellastarr* kicks off a 13 date run in mid July
Finally, for those headed out to the High Sierra Music Festival this summer, the organizers have announced their late night show schedule which has us wishing we were headed out to Quincy for the perennially jam-friendly fest. Among those acts hitting High Sierra’s two late night venues – High Sierra Music Hall and the Funk’n Jamhouse – will be Umphrey’s McGee, Tea Leaf Green, Dr. Dog, Leftover Salmon, AoD, the Disco Biscuits and Galactic. These shows require separate admission with limited amount of combo wristbands for each night that will get you into both venues currently available.
