Artist & Title: Gov’t Mule – Almost Cut My Hair

Gov’t Mule delivers a great rendition of David Crosby’s Almost Cut My Hair, a cut you can find on CSNY’s debut album Déjà Vu. Mule is on a swing through the South and plays tomorrow in Birmingham AL.

Artist & Title: Reid Genauer – Cold Coffee
Date & Venue: 2009-07-15 Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, New York NY
Taper & Show Download: Mike Salvo

Assembly Of Dust have a new album out titled Some Assembly Required, and the lineup of special guests is nothing short of legendary. You can stream the album from AoD’s website, be sure to check it out. This selection is from the album, a track where Reid Genauer and the rest of the band collaborated with the great David Grisman. AoD plays the Gathering Of The Vibes this Saturday.

Artist & Title: Robert Randolph & The Family Band – Billie Jean
Date & Venue: 2009-07-18 Artscape Festival, Baltimore MD
Taper & Show Download: Peter W. King

If all Michael Jackson musical tributes were this good, I would be OK with the steady stream of MJ covers to keep popping up for the rest of humanity. If you like this, you can also check out a good take on Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin from the same show. Randolph & The Family Band play the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan on Friday, and their next USA gig is August 7th in Kansas City MO.

We’ve also got the rare opportunity of supplementing Last Week’s Audio with Last Week’s Video, same track – same show, and you gotta check out the five minute mark, there’s some serious break dancing.

Artist & Title: Son Volt – Cocaine & Ashes
Date & Venue: 2009-07-14 Ikeda Theaterl, Mesa AZ
Taper & Show Download: jbanyai97

As this song starts, you can hear Son Volt front-man Jay Farrar say that this song is for Keith Richards. Of course it is, because the song is about how Richards supposedly made a powdered concoction that was one part his father’s ashes and one part Colombian Marching Powder. According to recent remarks made to Spinner, Farrar was inspired by this. Son Volt plays a double-bill with the Cowboy Junkies tonight in Seattle.
