B List: 10 Things We Learned This Summer

4. Bonnaroo and Glastonbury are still the best festivals in the world – Despite the economic downturn, the Bonnaroo and Glastonbury festivals were still musical and financial successes. We’re just worried they are running out of bands to book.

5. The Disco Biscuits can headline a show at Red Rocks – Admit it, you were a little surprised to see the Biscuits book Red Rocks and thought they might have a hard time selling tickets. While they didn’t fill the place, the jamtronica stars did well enough to earn a return engagement next year according to bassist Marc Brownstein.

6. Gimmicks rock, sometimes – Steely Dan has been playing better than ever on the Rent Party tour thanks in part to all the time they spent learning songs to bust out on Aja, Gaucho, Royal Scam and Internet Request nights. The tour has earned high marks from Dan vets and newcomers alike. Sure, it’s a ploy to sell more tickets but the fans win by getting to pick what they see.

7. Steven Tyler needs to focus on singing and not dancing – The Aerosmith lead singer fucked himself up good by falling off stage after showing a Sturgis, SD crowd his Elaine Benes dance imitation. The band was forced to cancel their summer tour, so perhaps Steve should calm down a bit.

8. Simone Felice leaving the Felice Brothers isn’t such a bad thing – While the Felice Brothers are still kicking ass with a new drummer, brother Simone is wowing music fans with his The Duke and The King project. Not only is The Duke and the King album one of the best of the year, the group’s live shows are stellar. By Simone leaving his brothers we now have two must-see acts touring the country instead of one.

9. The Nitrous Mafia is ruining it for everyone – Rumors swirled that the death of a 29 year old male at this year’s Gathering of the Vibes were nitrous-related and Al Schnier went so far as to post a note telling fans to keep the gas away from moe.down. Let’s hope GOTV will be able to put the death in the past and come back stronger than ever next year.

10. Hidden Track kicks ass – Not to toot our own horn or anything but…TOOT. We had the best summer ever both in terms of our numbers and the quality of our content. The staff and I want to thank everyone for coming back day after day to read what we have to say. We appreciate each and every comment, page view, tip, re-tweet and RSS subscription we get.

Now it’s your turn, what did you learn this summer?
