  1. *Mountains in the Mist* should be released on a studio album. I like what they do with ballads in the studio. And, it would get this tune back into the rotation.

  2. I would love to hear the studio version of Strange Design. Hearing a dusty cassette tape of some Billy Breathes demo sessions makes me yearn to hear Page in full form.

  3. My gosh – I don’t know if this counts but I doubt it does since it was never Officially released. The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday should be OFFICIALLY RELEASED but the song I would choose to hear from the studio would be The Lizards – Hands Phreakin Down!

  4. Agree with fluffdead, TMWSIY should be released in its entirety. Imagine the fellas take all they’ve learned over the years and put this down on tape today…hot. That being said, I vote: POSSUM.

  5. I think Spock’s Brain would be a great studio tune. It would really shine with some production and over dubs.

  6. i think we heard the old material so many times that evrything new would be perfect, i would go with ‘Gone’, really liked it and hoped it would make it on Joy…

  7. I always thought they should put together an epic Harry Hood in the Studio.
they could do some true justice to that song. Pretty sure all Phish releases with Hood are live, correct me if I’m wrong.

Ditto for Slave. but an EPIC studio released Hood would create permagrin so contagious that my life would look like the video for Black Hole Sun.

  8. whoops

    less than 50 words:

  9. Would definitely love to see either Slave or Mikes–>’Paug make an album. They could do a lot in the studio with both of these.

  10. I think a smokin Harry Hood would be fantastic- one of my faves it would be great to hear what they intend it to sound like

  11. Strange Design. It was recorded, yes. But (a) never made the album and (b) had that ethereal, wooshy Story of the Ghost feel, which did not capture the song IMO. Redo it. Love that tune!

  12. It would be incredible to see what the boys would do with Harry Hood in the studio. I would love to hear this as it would be an awesome tribute to one of their oldest and most played songs.

  13. I think they should put Fuck Your Face or Dear Mrs. Reagan on a studio album… just to put something out they they will probably never play live again.

  14. we totally need a halley’s commet, circa great went style, with the whole “I’m going down” vocal jam. that was funky phish. me likey funky phish

  15. Phish should definitely release a B-sides and Rarities album of studio recordings of past songs, and to close that album, a note-perfect “Slave To The Traffic Light.”

  16. I am a Carini lover, through and through. I know it often gets panned when played live, but I think it rocks and would love to hear a hard/metal edgy album version.

  17. Somantin. expertly-penned lyrics, great melody. with the right studio treatment this could have fit a slot on many a Phish album. round room or SOTG come to mind.

  18. by now hailey’s should really be on an album….i mean honestly, they have been playing it for so long it needs to be on record

  19. The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday in it’s entirety would make me soooo joyful. If I had to narrow it down, then Colonel Forbid–> Fly Famous Mockingbird. Uplifting in a way words cannot describe.

  20. Wow, so many choices but I’d have to say The Curtain With. It’s a beautiful song both musically and lyrically.

  21. since I am always looking to hear the “Curtain With” live, I’ll go with that as a track I’d like to hear a studio version of.

  22. Destiny Unbound… The first time I heard that song was on Phish Live: Nassau Coliseum 2-28-03, and it instantly became one of my favorite songs. I would love to hear a studio version.

  23. camel walk.
Going down town to the disco, got to do it right away. Got a funky thing to get into. gonna blow my blues away. Im talkin camel walk.

  24. I think they should work on a studio version of POSSUM.

We know the Wendell studios session exist and that version rocks..

  25. I always liked “Somanatin” from the Story of the Ghost outakes. It has a very cool, Robert Fripp-like guitar part.

  26. curtain with would be great, but i think a studio version of Hood would crystalize it as Phish’s greatest jam ever.

  27. 1. Strange Design shoulda been on BB
    2. Vultures shoulda been on SOTG
    3. Brother shoulda been on something (Lawn Boy?)

  28. i’d like to hear a studio version of “The Lizards”. the whole “Gamehenge” album needs to happen. i think Phish 3.0 is the place for it be born. it would be epic as a multimedia album and likely the studio masterpiece they’ve been seeking to create.

  29. Carini! I listened to every single live version of that song in circulation when I wrote my senior thesis, and would love a studio cut to add to that rotation.

  30. I’m feeling nostalgic for 2003 and really think that Discern should of made the cut. The songs that make the full evolution from Trey solo acoustic, horn intros and then to Phish should be celebrated on an album.

  31. Every time the band starts a set with Buried Alive you know you’re in for a rippin show. Now imagine a studio album with buried alive as track #1.

  32. Punch You In the Eye. I was skeptical about a Guyute studio version before it came out, but it raged. I am sure they could do the same with PYITE.

  33. I wish Lizards would make it onto a studio recording. Although, the song is so good live that I can’t imagine it being much better on a record.

  34. Carini. Easy choice, a nice rock song with hard guitar and a great lick that would hook a ton of people who may not listen to phish in the first place.

  35. sneakin’ sally through the alley, because if it made it’s way onto an album, we might actually hear it more often.

  36. Harry…HOOD! not quite sure why it never made it up there, but it probably would have lost some luster in the studio.

  37. I’d be interested to hear a Hood on a studio disc. It would just be really interesting to see where they took it. And I’d love to see if they added the “Hood” chant.

  38. Cooooolonel forbin stared up at the mountain… Although, I’ve got the trey dorm studio version which is very nice, I like.

  39. By far the best song that is not on an album but worthy of studio tweaking is Jerry (Timber Ho!)

    Carini is a close second

  40. I’ll go with Tube. long or short, this song always packs a punch. it was on the bearsville outtakes, so they did play it in the studio…just never got released.

  41. The Gamehedge songs should all be put on a compilation album that tells about the book and the story of gamehedge, most specifically I would love to hear Forbins>Mockingbird

  42. I’d think if it wasn’t so random, I’d say Carini would make a great album opener, but now I’m thinking a Halley’s Comet with a sick guitar solo leading up to a drop off that automatically overloads your listening device to drop into to a new random song as you would hear in concert!

  43. Tube, hands down. didn’t realize that was my favorite song until coventry and that was the song i wanted to hear one more time.

  44. There are many classics not on albums, but I vote for the Curtain (with), an early epic that should have been on Junta!

  45. I would really be interested in hearing a studio version of Harpua. I think the harmonies would be absolutely incredible.

  46. Would love to see Harry Hood get the studio treatment. They could go so many directions with the jam, studio could be awesome for really delicate slow build or way spacey.

  47. I gotta go with Possum…Possum…Possum…POSSUM! Such a good straight forward rocker…perfect for the studio. They would just annihilate it.

  48. I agree with the others who said Vultures. It’s a great song and reminds me of Kurt Vonnegut’s “Slaughterhouse-Five.”

  49. Punch You in the Eye. There’s been rumors for ever that it was on the next one. It’s a freakin’ stable. Do it already. Hey!

  50. Call it slightly-kinky, but I’ve always thought a RIPPIN studio version of NICU needs to be committed to celluloid, or else: what are we to do? Just listen to 89.1 WEMU’s Brazilian Fantasy show over and over to get a dance party started??? Studio NICU changes that!

  51. Tube!!! Trey sprays out lyrics in a machine gun rap that leads into a sinster Page vs. Gordo phunk session! So stupendous, living in this Tube…

  52. Harry Hood! The ALO version was a huge staple of my early Phish days, and I’d love to hear it reinterpreted in the studio, I think the relatively sparse composed sections would be great for a little studio magic.

  53. I have to go with Tube. It could never be the same as a live version, but I would love to hear it drop in full studio brilliance.

  54. First one to come to mind for me was Possum. Sounds too much like Skynyrd’s Swamp Music, but I’d like a prefected studio version nonetheless.

  55. I am still disappointed that we did not get a Camel Walk on this most recent tour, but if they were to release this track as a studio cut it would just be pure funk!!!

  56. It is hard to pick a unreleased song to be on a new album since I only want new songs on new albums. One exception is Glide II or “Flip” This song could be re-recorded and fit somewhere on some album in the future.

  57. I would choose Tube. It is a difficult song to play and could be done perfectly in a studio. The dissonance that Trey creates and that beat would be perfected in a studio version.

  58. Mike’s>Hydrogen>Weekapaug. Such classic tunes that need to stick together. Would love to hear a studio version maybe as a EP.

  59. I will have to go with “Possum”, for it is the 4th most played song (31% of shows), and has been kicking around live shows since 1985. If you need additional convincing, I will challenge you to find a version EVER which is not rocking…

  60. i would love to hear PYITE on a studio album. It is one of my favorite songs. Interested to hesr what a studio version would sound like.

  61. Harry Hood would be great! I love the sound of Mike’s bass in that song. It would be interesting to see what they do with it, although I think its an awesome live one.

  62. Wow, I don’t know any of their unreleased songs. I guess they should release “Glory Days” that they did with Bruce Springsteen at Bonnaroo this past summer. I know it’s not one of their songs but they did a good job with it.
