The Week That Was: A Slow Roller

Usually we find it hard to keep up with grueling pace of Rocktober, but that didn’t quite happen this week. In one of the slowest news weeks in recent memory, we still found plenty of ways to keep busy.

On Monday, we launched Through The Fog – a series of first-person “experience” reviews from Portland, OR-based journo A.J. Crandall as he discussed attending a Dylan show with his wife. Also, Jeff looked at The Roots’ time as Jimmy Fallon’s house band and I shared a tasty Fall ’95 Phish recording. Every other Tuesday Randy Ray profiles a great film that doesn’t get the attention it deserves and this week’s Hidden Flick was Magnetic Rose from Katsuhiro Otomo’s Memories anime compilation. DaveO’s week started on Tuesday with a Life On Mars? Cover Wars that featured numerous interesting versions of the Bowie song from a variety of genres.

We were all over the place on Wednesday from Jeff’s review of French indie-pop act Phoenix at Central Park to my articles on the redesigned Phish.Net and a preview of a Disney tribute album from an unlikely source – Los Lobos. This week’s B List – which looked at bands Phish forgot – came from Andy Kahn, while the latest Last Week’s Sauce played off an old B List by checking out jambands that have made it through the decade with flying colors. The week finished on our third anniversary with Jon Hochstat’s Burger Bash recap and Ryan Dembinsky’s CMJ Fest preview/mixtape. As always, thanks for reading Hidden Track.
