Phish drummer Jon Fishman came home tonight as Phish rocked the War Memorial in Syracuse for the first time since November 4, 1994. In a show that was high-energy from the first note to the last, Phish fed off the crowd at the intimate gym and even busted out Mike Gordon’s frenetic metal tune Big Black Furry Creatures From Mars for the first time since reuniting.

The leader of punk-pop band Gym Class Heroes – and one-time Katy Perry beau – Travis McCoy attended his first Phish show tonight and tweeted about it @Travismtv. McCoy seemed to “get it” as he tweeted “These dudes are BEASTS! Such a dick for never giving this band an honest chance. Such a great show,Trey is a shredder,” and “most devoted fans Ive ever seen, not a single soul standig (sic) still in the entire place. My hat is off to these guys yo.” Phish have the day off tomorrow before resuming their Fall Tour at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

At the show. Sick set
All first sets of the first 4 shows of fall tour = 0 segues. hmmm….
Awesome show. Bad acoustics and no segues, but 2-hours sets and tons of shredding
Shug….no seques so far? I gueess u havent heard 2nd set 1st night in Cincy?
derek… shug said FIRST SETS, and that is 100% correct. It looks and sounds to me like they’re planning each setlist. what’s the deal with the bowie opener followed by julius? a closer followed by an opener? and putting kill devil falls between sparkle and lawn boy? something is up here, they are creating a different feel of sets than in years past. and their jams sound more holistic, no more trey as the front man. they’re all just playin’ in the band. this ol’ timer is lovin this. keep it goin’ boys. i have a feeling philly is going to be the highlight of the tour…
I like how they are structuring the sets this tour. 1st set is all about tight composed songs, leaving most of the improv, segues, jamming, etc. for the 2nd set. I was in syracuse last night and there was definately a completely different feel between the 2 sets.
Also, they are definately not creating these setlists before they take the stage…maybe they have a few things in mind, but I was very close to the stage last night and you could see that Trey is coming up with much of the material on-the-fly.
Highlights (there were A LOT):
Bowie, Julius, KDF, Funky Bitch, Boogie on Reggae Woman, BBFCFM, Theme, Maze, First Tube, Good Times Bad Times
who cares about some pop punk noob? Are we really that concerned about mainstream thoughts on phish?
The whole show was great and Trey was MVP by far. A couple flubs here and there, but very solid all around. The second set was bonkers….i sweat like an animal and didnt stop dancing.
man it was hot in there! drowned>twist piper was great.
