Last Week’s Sauce: January 18th – 24th

Artist & Title: Kung Fu – Sophie
Date & Venue: 2010-01-18 Stella Blues, New Haven CT
Taper & Show Download: Matt V.

If you live anywhere near New Haven, this is a residency you should really check out. Kung Fu features Tim Palmieri (guitar), Todd Stoops (keyboards), Kris Jensen (saxophone), Dave Livolsi (bass) and Adrian Tramontano (drums). This ensemble has a great repertoire of tunes with a refreshing amount of fusion. Kung Fu next plays on Monday, Feb. 1 at Stella Blues in New Haven.

I had already picked the audio before looking for video on YouTube, and wouldn’t you know it – same tune!

Artist & Title: moe. – Real Morning Party
Date & Venue: 2010-01-22 Roseland Ballroom, New York NY
Taper & Show Download: marcus

The banter really sums up this track: In the introduction, one of the guys in moe. says that the song is awesome, and at the conclusion of the tune they point out that it will be one of those songs that you wake up in the middle of the night singing. All moe. plays tonight in Stroudsburg PA.

Video from the same show, Butch Trucks joining the band for Whipping Post:

Artist & Title: Some Cat From Japan – Izabella > Fire > Who Knows
Date & Venue: 2010-01-16 Sullivan Hall, New York NY
Taper & Show Download: Scott Bernstein

Once in a while a show or recording is so good that I’ll throw it in here even if the dates are off. Technically, this show misses the cut by two days, but fuck it. The core group of this Hendrix tribute featured, Nigel Hall (keyboards and vocals), Bernard (guitar), Ron Johnson (bass), Scott Metzger (guitar), and Eric Bolivar (drums). Gabriel Gordon and Eric Krasno also join in on the action.

Video from the same show, the band does Hey Joe:

Artist & Title: Umphrey’s McGee – 1348 > Bridgeless > 1348
Date & Venue: 2010-01-23 The Fillmore, Denver CO
Taper & Show Download: Brad Ziegler

UM covers a lot of ground in this 21+ minute segment. This was the first jammed out version of their Guns ‘n Roses-esque original 1348. Additionally, there is a jam on their rarity All Things Ninja mixed in there. Must hear for casual and hardcore fans alike. UM next plays on February 2nd in Omaha, NE.

Earlier that day, UM held their 5th ever “S2 Event”. Here is the video recap:
