Sure everyone knows the title track from Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ 1981 release I Love Rock N’ Roll, but did you know they also recorded this cover? Jett would record a live version with Evil Stig 14 years later as well.

My Morning Jacket: It doesn’t seem like it has already been three years since My Morning Jacket went “Under The Sea” for two prom-themed shows at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA – but I guess it was. In addition to this track, MMJ performed other prom-appropriate tune such as Wonderful Tonight, Oh What A Night, Johnny B. Goode and Dancing In The Moonlight. Source: 3-7-2007

Prince recorded this just last year for his album LotusFlow3r. No outro section in this rendition, but Prince works in the b-section from Wild Thing a couple of times.

The Uniques round things out with this charming rendition from 1969. I don’t know if it’s the out-of-tune piano, or the fact that they seem to be singing Crimson’s and Clover’s every time, but something about it is sure to make you smile. Source: Trojan Sixties Box Set

Checking in on last week’s look at Baby Don’t You Do It Covers, The Band has appropriately and predictably come away victorious.

  1. Tommy James ruled the late sixties & early seventies & it is great to see artists covering his music.
