Phish returned to the venue formerly known as Great Woods – now the Comcast Center – for the 14th time this evening as the quartet’s summer tour continued in Mansfield, MA. Starting on July 21, 1992, a show where Phish opened for Santana, the venue has been a regular stop for the band.
Tonight’s show opened with a cover debut in the form of Rita Clarke & The Naturals’ Lit O Bit followed by a pair of tunes written by former Phish member Jeff Holdsworth – Camel Walk and Possum. Lit O Bit wasn’t the only premiere of the evening as the band also debuted a new funky original called Dr. Gabel in the middle of the first set. Run Like An Antelope, which was just played on Sunday night at SPAC, closed the opening stanza.

[2] Debut. This show featured the Phish debut of Lit O Bit and the debut of Dr. Gabel.
There wasn’t much in the way of jams in Mansfield, although the high octane sequence of Sneakin’ Sally -> Light -> 46 Days was full of improv. Both segues were well executed and 46 Days contained an interesting a capella outro similar to what they did with Limb By Limb at the tour opener in Chicago. Outside of Sneakin’ Sally the only tour debut in the second set was Loving Cup, which was performed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon back in May during Stones Week.
Phish returns to action on Thursday night in Camden, NJ.
