Friday Mix Tape: The Band Covers

Dan Alford has presented two separate mixes of The Band covers for his Stormy Mondays columns over the past few years, but that won’t stop me from putting a mix of my favorite Band covers together for y’all this afternoon. In my opinion, you can never have too many mixes involving The Band. So with that, I’ll detail my song choices.

We start off with a rollicking version of Ophelia as performed by the Ryan Montbleau Band live in concert. Next, we’ve got Widespread Panic’s Chest Fever from the 2007 tribute album, Endless Highway. From there, we hit you with the Black Crowes’ take on The Night They Drove Ol’ Dixie Down from Freak N Roll Into The Fog. Gov’t Mule gives us The Shape I’m In from Mighty High before we move on to Weezer’s version of The Weight from the LP known as The Red Album.  Finally, we end with The Wild Magnolias’ cover of Life is a Carnival from the album of the same name.
