Last Week’s Sauce: July 19th – 25th

Artist & Title: Rhythm Devils – Cold Rain & Snow
Date & Venue: 2010-07-25 Red Butte Gardens – Salt Lake City, UT
Taper & Show Download: Russ Minas

Grateful Dead percussionists Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann are currently on the road touring as Rhythm Devils. They play tonight in San Diego, but the real interesting gig will be Gathering Of The Vibes on Saturday the 31st. We’ll see if they show up a day early to hang with their old bandmates Phil Lesh & Bob Weir who headline the mainstage Friday at The Vibes.

Cumberland Blues from the same show:

Artist & Title: String Cheese Incident – Bam! > Time To Pretend
Date & Venue: 2010-07-23 Red Rocks – Morrison, CO
Taper & Show Download: Peter Coffan

As we previously reported, SCI debuted a cover of MGMT’s Time To Pretend at their first show since 2009 last week during the opening show of a three-night-stand at Red Rocks. For the audio embedded below we have the segment from the beginning of the 2nd set which features the SCI original Bam! followed by the MGMT tune. SCI also debuted covers by Joe Walsh (via Barnstorm), The Police and Kansas over the course of the run. SCI plays three nights at Horning’s Hideout in North Plains, OR starting tonight.

Midnight Moonlight Encore from the third night of Red Rocks:

Widespread Panic – Pigeons > Who Do You Belong To? > Mr. Soul
Date & Venue: 2010-07-24 Bank of America Pavilion – Boston, MA
Taper & Show Download: Ted Gakidis

Widespread Panic opened their Boston show with a humorous dedication to Kings of Leon referencing their unfortunate gig cancellation in St. Louis. While I don’t normally like to include audio from the beginning of first sets – we like to let the sound guy figure out the acoustics of the room and generally pick audio from later in the show – this was too humorous to pass up. WSP plays Charlotte’s Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre tomorrow night.
