While we’re doling out praise to other sites, we wanted to wish a happy third birthday to our friends at Consequence of Sound. CoS has become a major player in the blogosphere on par with Stereogum, Pitchfork and Brooklyn Vegan thanks to the hard work of Alex Young and his extensive team of contributors. We love the thought and effort they put into each post – they don’t just post straight press releases and don’t just simply link to other websites with nary an original thought of their own when a story breaks.
The CoS team has just posted a list of their Top 100 Albums of All-Time as part of the birthday celebration. While our list would look very different, we love some of their decisions such as putting Abbey Road at #1. Happy Birthday CoS and keep up the great work.
Let’s take a look at some other stories of note this hump day…
- Stereogum premieres the video for Dr. Dog’s Shadow People
- Yo La Tengo returns to Maxwell’s for eight Hannukah shows
- Phil Collins talks about the future of Genesis and much more
- Chuck Leavell inducted the Crowes into the Georgia Music HoF
- Chromeo’s David Macklovitch discusses his band’s rise to fame
- Does “paperless tickets” just make things worse for Phish fans?
Finally, Chicago-based blues/funk act Lubriphonic kicked off a lengthy tour that takes them from coast to coast last night in Portland, OR. The band has been focusing on the funk side of their “horn-infused, funk and soul stew” recently as you can hear on their latest LP, The Gig Is On. You can download The Gig Is On – which includes legendary keyboardist Ivan Neville on four tracks – for free through the group’s website.
