What transpired on Saturday night September 25, 2010 was nothing short of miraculous. Every element of a great live musical experience conspired to create a unique portal of musical enjoyment.
The weather – a perfect 80 during the day and a cool 70 after dark.
The moon – nearly full, rising in an orange glow, appearing just above the rocks behind the stage during Dark Star.
Venue security – by all accounts benevolent and tolerant, if not downright accommodating.
The crowd – young and old, energized and mellow, friends and strangers.
The band – firing on all cylinders, with 70 year old Phil Lesh relentlessly driving the band on his bass guitar.
And I will spare you, the live music fan, with long descriptions of something that will be evident once you are able to LISTEN TO THE SHOW FOR YOURSELF.
Make sure to listen for places where Phil keeps the tempo up. Listen to Joe Russo throw a fill on top of a fill, playing more notes than should be possible. Listen to Bobby Weir sing sweetly and not fuck up the lyrics. And listen to the sweetest Stella Blue the post-Jerry era has ever seen.
From one live music fan to another, I encourage you to just listen to the music play!
“On days like these, it is good to be a Deadhead.”
